Sangiran in the region of Sragen, is the site of numerous fossil which have been discovered embedded in layers of limestone. The area has received special attention since the unearthing of the skeleton of ‘Solo Man’ in the nineteen thirties. A museum in the village of Krikilan displays a fascinating collection of ancient teeth, horns, bones, tusks, etc. which have been found in the region. Sangiran is 15 Kilometres north of Solo on the main Purwodadi road.
