Founded on 28th October 1890, this is the oldest Javanese cultural association in Indonesia. Aside from the foundation of a museum, the first activities of the association included the publication of classical literature and a monthly magazine in the Javanese language. Efforts have resulted in the standardization of the Javanese alphabet and the foundation of many courses, including dalang training, kawi (old Javanese), painting, wooden and leather puppets as an assortment ao ancient weapons and volumes of literature.
